WHY TRAVEL WITH US?

We've studied, worked and lived across much of Europe since 1986. We've been organizing private corporate tours since the late 1990s. We know this route well. From the countries and the cultures, to the great places to stay, and why they matter.

Your American guide is not an employee with a script. You're traveling with the owner of the company on a boutique experience. We are invested in every detail.

Hoadley & Blake caters to couples for whom a nice standard of travel is an essential part of a European vacation. Consistently high accommodation quality. Comfortable days on the road. Good food all along the way.

Don't think it will be snobby or pretentious. This is designed to be fun. As Americans we all generally love to see the more beautiful and historic side of Europe. And when you're also relaxed, well-rested and eating well, touring is a joy.

Hoadley & Blake was created to be the tour that both people in a couple delight in—one that honors history, but is also a true European Vacation.

A DIFFERENT PACE

We believe a great morning sets the tone for the day, so we make time for a proper European breakfast before heading out to the historic 1944-era sites of Normandy, Bastogne, and Bavaria.

We recognize that many travelers are comfortable with the faster pace of a traditional Battlefield-type tour. If you don't mind early departures, rigid timetables, and the high-energy environment of a full-capacity coach, a larger tour provider might be a great fit for you. Hoadley & Blake is a different pace.

Our experience living in Europe taught us that tour companies trying to link all of the U.K. sites, or even just Operation Market Garden from Band of Brothers, on a trip of this length is physically draining. If your goal is to see every filming location from the TV series in one go, a large-scale provider is your best bet, and we’d be happy to point you toward some good ones.

At Hoadley & Blake, we certainly see a great deal on tour—but we ensure you have the time to actually take it all in. With free time in exciting places built in!

A BETTER EXPERIENCE

When every meal is a joy and every night is comfortable in a historic European hotel, you can't help but smile.

Hoadley & Blake journeys are for travelers who are looking for an escape and ready to have fun. We're going to see a lot of amazing WWII history too. Just look at the itinerary on the next page.

We keep our groups small and our luxury-class coach uncrowded. We choose quality over quantity. And we design every detail with care and intention. The excitement of your historic accommodations become an every night experience.

Our goal is for you to look back on this as one of your all-time favorite adventures. If that resonates, you will feel the difference from the moment you arrive.

A SIGNATURE STAY

To cap off a tremendous experience, in partnership with a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division whose stewardship makes it possible, we spend two nights of our twelve-night journey at the castle in Bastogne where General Patton awarded General Anthony McAuliffe the Distinguished Service Cross during the Battle of the Bulge.

A beautiful setting in its own right, on a hill above cascading fish ponds and Belgian forests. It is a rare privilege to walk the same halls and traverse the estate grounds where history was written and legends were forged.

Veteran & Active-Duty Partnership

Hoadley & Blake proudly partners with the European Region of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA). Every 12th room is gifted at no charge to outstanding active-duty American Soldiers selected by AUSA Leadership.

Our Commitment to Your Experience
After decades of living and traveling extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, we have seen the tour industry from the inside. We understand the commercial pressures, the compromises, and the conventions that often shape travel at the expense of your experience.

Hoadley & Blake is a deliberate alternative. What follows is our promise to you.

In Brief:

-
Fully transparent pricing — no gratuities; no financial incentives from vendors that influence your experience.

-
No commissions, ever — recommendations are made solely on merit and quality. If a store offers a discount, it goes to you, not to our pockets.
-
Cuisine with purpose — dining chosen for cultural depth, no restaurant kickbacks (you'd be surprised).

-
No freeway rest stop lunches. Many tours pull over at freeway rest stops for "lunch" on their longer travel days. We just can't stomach that.

-
Expert-led journeys — American-led with scholarship, context, and passion. No scripts, no employees guiding your travel. As Gen-X guides, we share a unique space with you: together we are the generations who sat at the kitchen table and heard these stories firsthand from the "Greatest Generation" themselves. We don't just know the history; we knew and loved the men.

-
Meaningful Accommodations — Free time should always be in interesting places with things to do, see, and explore. Dull hotels outside of town dull the senses. At Hoadley & Blake, we view free time as your precious and valuable time in Europe.

-
Thoughtful pacing — later starts to the day, fewer miles, better routes, and time well spent. Unless you've traveled their roads, European travel times based on distances can be hard to judge. Most big tour companies get you up much earlier on most days, then they make short and tightly-timed stops at the sites you came to see. Too many cities to visit in a very short period is an industry standard. As a result, you spend a lot more time on a bus. Our view is that spending your vacation on a full bus is not a vacation.

-
The Frequent Traveler — If this is your first time going to Europe, even a traditional, hectic, full-coach tour will be exciting, because everything is different and new. We transcend that experience, for both new and experienced travelers. Our ability to do so stems from the depth of our travel, study, and professional work experience across Europe over several decades. This is Band of Brothers, elevated.

-
We See You America — We see America's tired, frazzled, and hungry as they exit a packed 55-seater bus on a traditional 'Band of Brothers' tour. It pains us to see people have to endure a full day on the freeways between Normandy to Arnhem, just to get up and go do it again. We recognize exhaustion on people's faces when we're returning from a great morning at The Eagle's Nest, and they've just arrived after three hours in traffic from Munich. Hoadley & Blake was created to be the antidote to all of that.

In Full:

Pricing Transparency
Our pricing is fully inclusive. Our team is focused entirely on your experience—not on tips or commissions. Additional gratuities for drivers and guides are respectfully declined.

Our rates are set and clearly stated. There are no additional or hidden fees. Every cent of your deposit applies towards your tour.
No discount offers available 'only to new clients', after you have made your reservation.
Local Authenticity
We do not participate in commission-based shopping arrangements.
Recommendations are made solely on the basis of craftsmanship, quality, and relevance. If a store offers a reduced rate for our visit, we ask that the benefit be passed directly to you.

Every recommendation we make reflects genuine enthusiasm—not obligation.
Culinary Integrity
Dining is an essential part of cultural understanding. Restaurants are selected for the excellence of their kitchens, the integrity of their sourcing, and the character of their setting.
Menus are chosen with intention and context, not convenience.

We categorically avoid establishments that compensate guides or drivers. Lunch stops are selected with the same care as dinners—never reduced to motorway rest areas and never treated as an afterthought.
Scholarship, Not Scripts
Your journey is not experienced as a dry recitation of exact dates or delivered via memorized narratives. There are no junior guides or hourly employees.

Your tour is personally led by the founders of Hoadley & Blake—hosts with linguistic fluency, academic grounding, and a lifelong engagement with the subject matter, the continent, and the people.
We are here to explore the why and how of history, not merely the where and when, and to do so with a deep understanding of American cultural context and expectations.
Respect for Your Time
Routes are designed for historical relevance and visual beauty. Long stretches are minimized, and when necessary are enhanced with frequent meaningful stops aligned with the story of your journey.

Luxury-class coaches are selected for comfort and space. Groups are kept intentionally small so time is spent experiencing, engaging, and enjoying—never waiting.

Free time on tour means central locations, safe and walkable neighborhoods, curated dining suggestions, and nearby staff availability.
We want to ensure that coffee and pastries, people-watching, bookshops, local markets, antiques, spas, and promenades are always within easy, comfortable reach.

We also build flexibility into your tour with optional activities, allowing you to shape your experience to your liking.

Travel well. Travel with purpose.
Nancy Wagner, Kansas City
"I thought the high-end hotels might be pretentious, but they were actually just really fun. Mickey set the stage, and we never felt out of place."
J Gilbert, Denver
"Mickey and Essly designed a custom tour for us in Singapore, Bali and China that was beautifully paced. It focused on highlights instead of trying to pack too much into the day. Incredible hotels. Unforgettable, really."
Mike and Judy Novak, Lansing
“Our custom tour was unique. Mickey, your subtle cues on how some of the different cultures perceive us changed the warmth of our reception everywhere we went.”
